Competition for the expansion of the schoolhouse in Grimisuat
Marmaille is a sporadic construction that divides the existing volumes and voids along its axis. The new building has 4 floors. The interior rooms develop around the central axis. This arrangement allows double orientation of the rooms.
On the lower ground floor level, the central break room and the outside space of the day-care center are defined.
The day-care center on the lower ground floor is in direct connection with the multi-purpose hall. Public rooms, such as library and Ludothek are located on the mezzanine floor and directly accessible from the street. The existing parking spaces and the bus stop are preserved at this level.
The new classrooms are located on the two upper floors and are accessible from both ground floor levels.
The connection between the new and existing school is laid out in the basement behind the gym so that access to the infrastructure is possible without leaving the building.
The facade consists of horizontal layers, which allow a generous entrance of light and underline the multiple orientation of the interior rooms.
